ABOUT
The Dudok Ensemble (from now on “Dudok”) was founded in 1999 by conductor Johan Rooze together with a enthusiastic singers and instrumentalists. Until 2008 Rooze stayed on as conductor and artistic manager of Dudok. In 2008 he married Hyojung, a lovely South Korean, left the Netherlands and moved to the Republic of Korea. Rooze has since been coming back annually to conduct certain projects. Up and including 2018 Johan has been flying over each year to perform the St. Matthew Passion with Dudok. An honor and pleasure to both parties involved. Other conductors from both within and outside the Netherlands conduct other projects during the year.

Dudok has a core group of 40 amateur singers and an orchestra and depending on the repertoire, this group gets extended with the necessary instrumentalists and singers. Dudok stimulates young professional soloists to make their debut with its ensemble and is therefore always searching for new talents.
Every year around spring Dudok performs Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. For the parts sung by the boys’ choir Dudok collaborates with several well-known choirs such as the Broadcast boys choir, the Haags Matrozenkoor and the Kathedrale Koor Utrecht. In 2008 and 2009 Erik van Nevel conducted the St. Matthew Passion performances. In 2011 Gijs Leenaars took the baton for the annual performance of this Passion. Other conductors who have worked with Dudok are Bas Ramselaar, Jeroen Spitteler, Chris Pouw, Hein Meens, Arie Hoek and Edward Caswell. Amsterdam, Bilthoven, Hilversum and Utrecht (all in the Netherlands) have been the main locations where the ensemble was hosted since its establishment. Dudok enjoys the fact that its performances are always well visited and often sold out.
In addition to the St. Matthew Passion Dudok also performs other classical music. Since its establishment Dudok performed a multitude of works including:
-
J.S. Bach - Christmas Oratorio
-
J.S. Bach - Mass in B minor
-
W.A. Mozart - Requiem
-
W.A. Mozart -C-moll Messe
-
J. Haydn - Nelson Messe
-
J. Brahms - Ein Deutsches Requiem
-
S. Rachmaninov - Vespers
-
G. Fauré - Requiem
By performing a wide range of music the ensemble has collected an equally wide range of visitors and is renowned for its high quality as well as for its transparent and musically expressive performances.
